What an exciting time we’re having at Lower Marsh Farm at the moment! We entered 2 categories in the Cornwall Tourism 2017 / 2018 Awards; the Wildlife Friendly Tourism Business Award and the Self-Catering Property of the Year and received awards in both. We won Silver in the Self-Catering Property of the Year and were Highly Commended in the Wildlife Friendly Tourism Business category.
Wildlife Friendly Tourism Business Award category
Members of the judging panel visited the Farm in September 2017 and have recently met to decide their finalists. Although we did not reach the final of the Wildlife Friendly Tourism Business Award category, the assessors were very impressed with our conservation efforts. As a result we have been awarded their Highly Commended status – a fine accolade indeed, and one which we are very proud of!
Some of the work we have recently undertaken to assist with the wildlife conservation:
- we created a pond and planted this in order to support wildlife,
- put up nesting boxes (now used by at least swifts and owls!),
- planted more fruit trees in the orchard,
- planted hedges using native flowering and berry producing species,
- created 2 new wildlife friendly flower beds.
Self-Catering Property of the Year category – again, a member of the judging panel visited to assess us and the fantastic news is that we have won the Silver award in this category! We care very much how our guests enjoy their stays with us and always listen to their feedback. It was as a direct result of this feedback that we installed a new hot tub for the guests at Kingfisher Barn, and extended and fenced the garden there to make it better for children and dogs.
Other facilities introduced over the past few years include:
- a children’s playhouse,
- a woodland den,
- a play area with a large mud kitchen,
- a games room.
In 2017 the Well House was refurbished for use as a spa treatment space.
