Cosy, romantic weddings at Lower Marsh Farm
There’s something wonderfully romantic about a winter wedding. Roaring fires, candlelight, twinkling fairy lights and winter greenery create a warm, intimate atmosphere, while outside the farm settles into the quieter beauty of the season.
Tucked away in the Tamar Valley on the Cornish bank of the River Tamar, Lower Marsh Farm is a relaxed and romantic setting for winter and festive weddings in Cornwall, from an intimate elopement for just the two of you to a celebration with family and friends.
With over 40 acres of countryside, woodland, orchard and nature reserve surrounding you, it feels wonderfully secluded – giving you the freedom to make the farm your own for a few very special days.
A winter wedding that feels completely your own
Winter weddings don’t have to follow a particular formula.
You might choose an intimate ceremony in our characterful Well House, marry at beautiful Landulph Church, just a short stroll from the end of our drive, or – if the Cornish weather is kind – embrace the season and hold part of your celebration outside.
For larger celebrations, a heated marquee or tipi can transform the farm into a wonderfully atmospheric winter venue, while smaller weddings can make use of our more intimate spaces.
And because we only host a limited number of weddings each year, we’re happy to help you create something that feels personal to the two of you rather than offering a one-size-fits-all wedding package.
Festive weddings at Lower Marsh Farm

If you love Christmas, this is a particularly magical time to get married here.
Think fires glowing, candles flickering, fairy lights, beautiful winter foliage and the scent of fresh Christmas trees.
We even grow our own Christmas trees on the farm, so you really can embrace the season.
Decorations can be as simple or as gloriously festive as you like – winter greenery, berries, candles, wreaths, ribbons and twinkling lights all sit beautifully against the old stone buildings and rural surroundings.
And while Cornwall might not promise you snow, we can promise plenty of atmosphere.
Make a few days of it
One of the loveliest things about getting married at Lower Marsh Farm is that your wedding doesn’t have to be over in a day.
Our wedding bookings can include accommodation at the farm, allowing around 20 of your closest family and friends to stay with you.
That means your celebrations might begin with supper together the evening before, continue through your wedding day and finish with a relaxed breakfast or walk beside the Tamar the following morning.
Our barns and cottage have kitchens and comfortable living spaces, and several have their own private hot tubs – particularly tempting after a winter wedding.
It makes the whole experience feel less like a single event and more like a very special few days away together.
Winter elopement weddings in Cornwall

Winter is also a beautiful time to disappear to Cornwall and get married with nobody else around.
Our elopement weddings are designed for just the two of you, with a three-night stay at Lower Marsh Farm giving you time to settle in, get married and then simply enjoy being newlyweds.
Your ceremony could take place in the Tap Room or another licensed setting around the farm, and we can help arrange the little things that make it feel special – from flowers and photography to cake, hair and make-up, spa treatments and a private wedding dinner.
And if your dog is an important part of your family, they’re very welcome to come too.
Winter wedding photography

Winter brings its own kind of beauty to the farm.
The low light can be gorgeous for photographs, while the old stone buildings, woodland, orchard, nature reserve and River Tamar give you plenty of different backdrops without having to leave the estate.
Wrap up, pull on your boots and head down to the river for photographs – then retreat inside to warm up beside the fire.
For festive weddings, fairy lights, candles and Christmas greenery create beautiful evening photographs too.
Winter wedding food

Winter lends itself particularly well to wonderful food.
Think warming seasonal dishes, sharing feasts, candlelit dinners, mulled drinks and indulgent puddings.
We don’t tie you to an in-house wedding caterer, so you have the freedom to choose the food and style of dining that suits your celebration. We’re also very happy to recommend some of the excellent local suppliers we’ve worked with.
And we don’t charge corkage, so you’re free to choose your own wine, Champagne and other drinks.
A naturally more sustainable wedding
Winter weddings can also be a lovely opportunity to embrace what’s naturally available at that time of year.
Seasonal greenery and locally sourced food can replace flowers and ingredients flown halfway around the world, while candles, foliage and reusable decorations can create an incredibly beautiful setting without needing excessive decoration.
At Lower Marsh Farm, sustainability is part of everyday life rather than something reserved for weddings. We manage our land with wildlife and biodiversity in mind, use renewable energy and work with local suppliers wherever possible.
Having your ceremony, celebration and accommodation all in one place can also significantly reduce the amount of travelling your wedding guests need to do.
Small & intimate winter weddings
You don’t need a huge guest list to have a wonderful wedding.
Lower Marsh Farm is particularly well suited to small and intimate winter weddings, where everyone can stay close together and the celebration can feel relaxed and personal.
Invite your closest family and friends, gather around a beautiful table for dinner, light the fire and enjoy having nowhere else you need to be.
For very small weddings, you may not need a marquee at all. For larger celebrations, we can help you explore options for a heated marquee, tipi or stretch tent depending on your plans and guest numbers.
Your winter wedding, your way

Perhaps you’d like a tiny ceremony followed by dinner for your closest family.
Maybe you’re imagining a Christmas wedding filled with fairy lights and greenery.
Or perhaps you want a larger winter celebration with a heated marquee, live music and everyone dancing late into the evening.
We’ll help you work out how to use the farm in a way that suits your wedding.
There are no conveyor-belt weddings here. Lower Marsh Farm is our home as well as our business, and we’ll be close at hand throughout your stay to help everything run smoothly.
Winter & Festive Wedding FAQs
Can we have a Christmas wedding at Lower Marsh Farm?
Absolutely. We love festive weddings. Christmas trees, winter greenery, candles, fairy lights and roaring fires work beautifully with the character of the farm, and we can help you create anything from a subtle winter feel to a wonderfully festive celebration.
Do you host December weddings?
Yes, subject to availability. We only hold a limited number of weddings each year, so it’s worth getting in touch as soon as you have a date or time of year in mind.
What happens if the weather is bad?
We always discuss a wet-weather plan with you. The best option will depend on your guest numbers and where you would ideally like to hold your ceremony and celebration. Larger winter weddings will normally need a heated marquee, tipi or similar covered space.
Can we have an outdoor winter ceremony?
Potentially, yes. If the weather behaves itself and you’re happy to embrace the season, an outdoor ceremony can be beautiful. We’d always have an alternative plan ready.
Can we have a winter elopement for just the two of us?
Yes. Our elopement weddings are specifically designed for couples who would like a small, private wedding and a few days away together.
Can our dog come to our wedding?
Yes – we’re a dog-friendly wedding venue and dogs are very welcome. We can also recommend a dog chaperone, so your dog can be part of your ceremony and photographs while someone else takes care of them when you want to relax.
Is accommodation included?
Our wedding options can include accommodation on the farm for around 20 people, depending on the package and arrangements you choose.
Do you provide wedding catering?
We don’t have an in-house wedding caterer, which gives you much more flexibility. You can choose your own caterer or we can recommend trusted local suppliers.
Do you charge corkage?
No. You’re welcome to supply your own drinks and we don’t charge corkage.
How many guests can we invite?
We can host everything from an elopement for two to a larger celebration of around 120 guests, depending on the layout and plans for your wedding.
