A beautiful wedding, with nature at its heart
If you’re dreaming of a wedding that feels relaxed, personal and a little gentler on the planet, Lower Marsh Farm offers a wonderfully natural setting for your celebration.
Hidden away in the Tamar Valley on the Cornwall–Devon border, our family-run farm is surrounded by more than 40 acres of meadows, woodland, orchard and a rewilded nature reserve beside the River Tamar.
Sustainability isn’t something we’ve added just for weddings. It’s part of how we look after the farm every day – protecting wildlife and habitats, generating renewable energy, growing produce using regenerative methods and working with local people and businesses wherever we can.
Whether you’re planning an intimate elopement for two, a small gathering with family and friends or a larger celebration, we’ll help you create a wedding that’s beautiful, memorable and genuinely yours.
A wedding surrounded by nature
One of the simplest ways to make your wedding feel special is to let the surroundings do some of the decorating for you.
At Lower Marsh Farm, ceremonies and celebrations can take place beside the river, amongst the trees, in the orchard, beside the pool or within our characterful courtyards and gardens.
The landscape changes beautifully with the seasons – from blossom and wildflowers in spring and summer to autumn colour and winter greenery – so there’s little need for elaborate decoration.
And you may find a few uninvited guests make an appearance too, with deer, kingfishers, owls and other wildlife sharing the farm with us.
Sustainable choices without compromising on the celebration
We don’t believe a sustainable wedding has to mean going without. Often, it’s simply about making thoughtful choices about where things come from, how far they travel and what happens to them afterwards.
We can help you incorporate more sustainable touches into your wedding, including:
- Seasonal and locally sourced food and flowers,
- Local independent wedding suppliers,
- Real flower-petal confetti, including petals gathered and dried here on the farm,
- Reusable, hired or vintage decorations rather than single-use items,
- Locally produced wines, drinks and ingredients,
- Seasonal greenery and natural decorations from the farm,
- Thoughtful ways to reduce waste throughout your celebration.
You’re free to choose your own suppliers, or we’re very happy to introduce you to trusted local businesses who share our approach.
Ceremony, celebration and accommodation in one place
Having your wedding and accommodation together doesn’t just make the celebrations more relaxed – it can also reduce unnecessary journeys.
Around 20 guests can stay here at the farm, across our cottages, barns and yurt cabins, allowing your closest friends and family to turn your wedding into a few wonderful days away together.
Your ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast, photographs and evening celebration can all happen here too.
For couples who would prefer a traditional church ceremony, the beautiful Landulph Church is only around 200 metres from the farm at the end of our drive – close enough for you and your guests to walk.
Food that’s local, seasonal and personal
Food can be one of the loveliest ways to make your wedding more sustainable.
You can choose your own wedding caterer, giving you the freedom to create a menu that reflects the way you like to eat. We can also recommend excellent local suppliers and caterers who can make the most of seasonal Cornish and West Country produce.
We grow some of our own produce here using regenerative methods, and we’re always happy to explore ways of bringing something grown or gathered at Lower Marsh Farm into your celebration.
From relaxed sharing feasts and outdoor dining to something altogether more formal, your wedding breakfast can be as individual as the rest of your day.
Flowers, confetti and decorations from nature
With an orchard, gardens, woodland and acres of countryside around you, nature provides plenty of inspiration.
We only allow real flower-petal confetti, rather than plastic or synthetic alternatives. We can even provide petals collected and dried from flowers growing here at Lower Marsh Farm, including roses and wisteria when the seasons allow.
Seasonal flowers and foliage can also be a beautiful alternative to imported blooms, while potted plants, dried flowers and reusable decorations can all help reduce waste.
A farm that’s cared for with wildlife in mind
Lower Marsh Farm includes a rewilded nature reserve alongside the River Tamar, and protecting this landscape and its biodiversity is incredibly important to us.
Our approach to the farm includes renewable energy from solar panels, regenerative growing and careful management of our meadows, woodland, orchard and wildlife habitats.
Choosing Lower Marsh Farm for your wedding helps support the continued care of this special little corner of Cornwall.
Small weddings can make a big difference
If you’re considering a smaller celebration, an intimate wedding or elopement naturally lends itself to a lighter footprint.
Our Cornwall elopement weddings are designed for just the two of you, with your accommodation, ceremony and wedding coordination all in one place. You can stay for three or more nights and turn your wedding into a peaceful little honeymoon too.
For those who’d like to celebrate with family and friends, we can also host intimate weddings and larger celebrations, including marquee and tipi weddings.
Your wedding, your way
Perhaps the most sustainable wedding is one filled with things that actually matter to you.
You don’t need hundreds of favours, mountains of decorations or a long list of wedding traditions simply because they’re expected. At Lower Marsh Farm, there’s no prescribed formula for how your day should look.
Have your ceremony beside the river. Eat dinner under the trees. Walk back to your cottage at the end of the evening. Bring your dog. Spend the following morning having breakfast with everyone rather than rushing away.
We’ll help you create a celebration that feels like your wedding rather than somebody else’s idea of one.
Frequently asked questions about sustainable weddings
Is Lower Marsh Farm a sustainable wedding venue?

For weddings, we also encourage local suppliers, seasonal produce, natural decorations and reusable alternatives to single-use items.
Can we have an outdoor wedding ceremony?
Yes. We have a choice of outdoor ceremony locations, including riverside, poolside, garden and woodland settings. We also have licensed indoor options and can discuss suitable wet-weather arrangements when you visit.
Can we choose our own wedding suppliers?
Yes. We want your wedding to feel completely personal, so you’re welcome to choose your own suppliers. We can also recommend trusted local businesses, including caterers, florists and photographers.
