As frequent visitors to Plymouth’s Royal William Yard, we were delighted to see that it has featured as a highlight of the 3rd Best Holiday Destination for 2020, by Conde Nast Traveler.

Staying with us here at Lower Marsh Farm, in our rural idyll, means you are only 30 minutes away from the Royal William Yard, the Barbican and also the much-admired Aquarium.

The Grade 1 listed ex-victualling yard (food store), is the perfect location to explore. It has a marina with old boat loading cranes and sea views across The Sound. Simply meander along choosing where to eat from a fine selection of restaurants!

There are high quality, local and national unique events. There are monthly excellent artisan food and crafts market. The theatre and outdoor cinemas, live music and circus performances will enchant you.

What we love about the Royal William Yard

Personally, we love to get the water taxi from the Barbican. It cost around £2 per person each way – under 14’s go free. Then we can take in the scenic coastline of the Barbican and the Hoe. The taxi runs hourly.  You are then dropped in the centre of the harbour, surrounded by an incredible array of bars and restaurants (click here for details).

Our favourite is the Seco Lounge – its relaxed and informal and a comfortable place to dine with the children.

For a ‘grown up’ experience, try Bistrot Pierre, followed by a visit to Le Vignoble – an independent wine merchants, stocking over 300 wines from around the world and with a unique ‘tasting’ system that will have you planning your next visit before you leave!

Take a stroll along the famous South West Coast Path, descending the steps from Devils Point into the Yard. The Royal William Yard has so much to offer.

Events
