This weekend we went to Plymouth to visit the Mayflower Steps. This is the site, which is located on The Barbican, where the Pilgrim Fathers were said to set sail from on their epic journey to America in 1620. The story is told and celebrated in the nearby Mayflower Museum, which is open all year round, and contains 2 floors of displays and information about the Pilgrim Fathers, as well as a model of the famous Mayflower herself.

We visited the Mayflower Steps Souvenir Shop which sold all sorts of interesting mementos to remember our visit.

As well as the beautiful Marina full of yachts there were plenty of cafes and bars to sit outside, where we could relax and take in the beautiful scenery and views whilst we had some much needed refreshments from the Boathouse Café, which served excellent home cooked food.

Altogether a very enjoyable day out which was only a 20 minute drive away, over the spectacular Tamar Bridge which links Devon and Cornwall.mayflower
