Potential guests often contact us seeking accommodation when they have received an invited to attend a royal naval ceremony. Usually looking for HMS Raleigh accommodation. Plymouth, a short 15 minute drive away, is the home of the Royal Navy’s Devonport naval base and docks and is near where HMS Raleigh is based – the naval training establishment.
Each year there are numerous ceremonies held at the base. The ‘passing-out parades’ are probably the most well attended. It’s when families naturally want to gather together and celebrate their loved ones achievements.
Often, the enquirers are seeking accommodation that is suitable for larger groups. We can accommodate this in perfectly, having facilities that sleep up to 14 people across our 2 luxury barns and cosy cottage. Smaller groups are also easily accommodated.
HMS Raleigh’s Passing-Out parades are the royal navy’s, traditional reward ceremony. A way of formerly recognising all the hard work and training that the young recruits have endured during their time in Devonport.
And what better way to show off their achievements. Parading them in full uniform, in front of their emotional and incredibly proud relatives and friends, they will have definitely earned their place in the Royal Navy.
A high-ranking officer is always on duty and will always oversee the parade, present the prizes and lead the salute to his new crew members.
So, when the time has come for them to relax and enjoy themselves, we offer tranquillity and space.
Having somewhere that they can retreat to too is another reason we find ourselves so popular. Walking through our woodland or along our beach would be a real treat. We even have a very versatile ‘games room‘ which is ideal for playing table tennis and chilling with loved ones.
It means everyone can be in one place. Travelling to the ceremony together (we can help organise a mini bus if needed), eating together and celebrating together.
